In June 2014 Pittwater RSL Soccer Club celebrated its 50th year on the peninsula, with a dinner dance at Pittwater RSL Club. In recognition of this milestone, the club gave every playing member with a new shirt, which is a replica of the original shirt worn in its inaugural year.

The club was first formed in 1964 as part of the Pittwater Youth Club. The driving force and founding members behind it were Alan Wilson and Terry O’Connell. The Youth Club catered for a wide range of sports, apart from soccer, including cricket, basketball, rugby league, boxing and ballet to name but a few.
Unfortunately some of the sports began to wane over the years but the Soccer Club itself, got bigger and bigger, and eventually became a separate entity. Up until the early 70’s, the clubs home ground was Mona Vale oval, the site where the library is now situated, and they eventually moved over to Kitchener Park when the area was cleared and a sporting field was created.
In its formative years, Alan and Terry were greatly supported by the Pittwater RSL Club and the club is still its Major sponsor to this day.

The Soccer club in those early days only had some 10 or 15 teams, but with the popularity of the sport growing, so did the Pittwater Soccer Club, which now boast some 130 teams, some 1500 players, ranging from sub juniors right through to Premier League teams and includes both boys and girls.
It has become one of the powerhouse clubs on the peninsula.
The club has always prided itself on its management and player presentation, but more than anything else, to foster a genuine family atmosphere.
This is evidenced by some 80 members who have now played 500 games or more for the club, many of which have been honoured with life membership. Countless more members have played 300 and 400 games.
Alan Wilson’s grandsons Matthew and Mark have played their entire careers at Pittwater, as did their father Mick, who played for over thirty years. Terry O’Connell’s grandson Mitchell, who’s father Robert also played for close to the thirty years, is also still playing for the club and Terry’s wife, Lily is the Premier Leagues No 1 supporter still getting to every game she can, at age 86. Terry’s son Michael also played for many years before moving north.

The Pittwater club continues to be very family orientated, with many generations of family members still involved throughout the club to this day. Families such as Lorna [deceased] and Don Gale and their family (daughter Annette is the current President & her husband Neil is the current VP), who have been working tirelessly within the club for decades
Over the years the men’s Premier League team has won eleven major titles, including the last three in a row, plus the grand finals. Pittwater has also represented the Manly Warringah area over the last three years in the end of season Champion of Champions competitions which is State wide, winning two and narrowly missing out on the third.
Alan and Terry have both passed away, but both had green and white blood flowing through their veins till their final days. They would no doubt look on with pride and see their efforts being continued on by a really hard working committee, plus countless volunteers, eager to see the Pittwater Soccer Club continue to thrive and grow and carry on the tradition, which has become the Pittwater Club motto.
The Pride of the Peninsula !!!
