Managers and Coaches

We either welcome you back as a coach and manager or congratulate you to this new position. Whether you have done this before or not, please have fun and enjoy your role. The committee members are here to help you so please contact the respective person if you have any questions or concerns. A specific managers and coaches evening will be arrange closer to the start of the season. We will contact you via email once a date has been set. You will receive your kit bag and key information on the day. You will also be provided with a coaches and managers manual outlining all aspects you need to know for the 2018 winter season.

Coaches qualifications

We encourage you to undertake an appropriate coach training for your age group. All information about coaching including recourses and expectations are available here.

General Duties Coach

  • Read and be familiar with the national curriculum.
  • Attend a licence course relevant to the age group you are coaching. These are free to all coaches in MWFA.
  • To ensure that all players receive an equal amount of coaching, irrespective of their ability. Never ridicule or yell at players for making a mistake or not winning
  • To make weekly team selection ensuring that each player is given a fair and equitable selection and rotation during the season. If you are unable to attend a particular game you should advise the team selection and preferred positions to the manager or designated parent or player.
  • To instruct the team in skills, principles and rules of the game and encourage good sportsmanship.
  • Be aware of any medical conditions or injuries suffered by your players.
  • To ensure that all equipment provided to your team by the club is properly maintained and returned to the age coordinator at the end of the season.
  • Complete a player report at the end of the year and handed to the Vice President. This will be a vital part of grading for following season.
  • Know the rules of the game associated with your age group.
  • In competition age groups, keep a record of scores and periodically check the table.
  • Ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of the players.
  • Ensure that your trainings finish when they are scheduled to finish, unless the field is not booked after you.
  • Ensure that you submit the game results to the Competition Secretary by 6pm GAME DAY (not necessary for age groups U6-U9).

General Duties Manager

  • To ensure that all players are dressed in the Clubs uniform and all jewellery has been removed.
  • To notify all members of the team of time and location of the matches including any cancellations, transferred and washed out games.
  • Organise a roster for parents or players when your team has been allocated canteen roster duties.
  • If you are away team and playing Forestvile FC or another Pittwater team you must collect a set of yellow ‘away’ strip from kitchener park for use on the game. The strip must be returned WASHED by the following Friday.
  • To maintain a record of games played to assist the Coach in equitable team selection.
  • Act as a buffer between your coach and the team parents when necessary. With the coaches, resolve any behaviour/attitude problems with players or parents in your team. For problems that can’t be resolved please contact Vice President.
  • Inform the club if a player leaves your team, a new coach or manager is appointed or if you change when you will be training.
  • Ensure that you submit the game results to the Competition Secretary by 6pm GAME DAY.
  • To organise your teams allocation for BBQ roster.

Lines of Communication

No direct contact what so ever with Manly Warringah Football Referees Association (MWFRA)  or Manly Warringah Football Association (MWFA) management committee. All approaches relevant bodies, must be made through the Vice President. All queries regarding matches will be done through the Competition Secretary. All protests resulting from matches must be made in writing to Vice President and Competition Secretary as soon as possible as the Club only has 48hours to submit protest.

Code of conduct for managers and coaches

  • Remember that people participate for pleasure and winning is only part of it.
  • Never ridicule or yell at players for making a mistake or not winning
  • Operate within the laws and spirit of the game at all times and teach your players to do the same.
  • Display control and professionalism to all involved in the sport.
  • Be responsible for the sportsmanship and actions of your players before, during and after the game.
  • Refrain from any form of personal abuse or unnecessary physical contact with the players in your care.
  • Show concern and caution towards sick or injured players.
  • Avoid overplay of talented players and understand that the average players need and deserve equal time.
  • Do not unnecessarily borrow players from other teams just to win a game, playing preference should be given to your team.
  • Do not abuse, threaten or intimidate a referee, coach, manager or other match officials, whether on or off the field.
  • Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every participant.
  • Do no use bad language nor harass players, officials, spectators or other coaches
  • Obtain appropriate qualifications and keep up to date with the latest coaching practices and the principals of growth and development of younger players.
  • Do not arrive at a venue intoxicated or drink alcohol at Sub Junior & Youth matches.
  • Do not enter the field of play without the referee’s permission.
  • Control the behaviour of the parents and spectators of your team in the vicinity of the ground before and after the game.
  • Report breeches regarding codes of conduct to the age coordinator.
